Work Package 3 – Literature Study

WP Status: Completed

Objective: The general objective of WP3 was to get a thorough understanding of the current state of the art in the fields relevant to the OptiColor project. The expected benefits are: (1) Saving time from focusing on aspects that have already addressed successfully by others (2) Develop a more scientifically-routed solution rather than a pure experimental/empirical solution (3) Became aware of the available image processing algorithms that can be used in our project thus saving from reinventing the wheel.

The fundamental knowledge relevant to this project spans in the following fields:
1. Visual Search. Investigates how people located target objects amongst background objects (or distractors) in a visual scene.
2. Visual Attention. Investigates what objects attract attention in a visual scene.
3. Road Traffic Safety. Where specific field studies have been contacted to investigate high-visibility apparel improve consciousness and reduced accident rates.
4. Worksite Safety. Where specific field studies have been contacted to investigate how high-visibility apparel improve consciousness and reduced accident rates.
